Child Safety Standards

Embracia is committed to safety and wellbeing of all children and young people. We understand our responsibilities and statutory duty of care to comply with both the Victorian Child Safe Standards and the Reportable Conduct Scheme to build our capacity as an organisation to prevent and respond to allegations of child abuse.

Embracia is committed to implementing and abiding by our Child Safety and Wellbeing Policy based on Child Safe Standards in Victoria (2022), which accentuates our zero tolerance for child abuse and raising awareness about the importance of child safety within Embracia and the community.

At Embracia we are dedicated to protecting children from abuse and neglect and promote a child safe environment, maintaining children’s wellbeing. We adhere to our comprehensive Child Protection Policy, standing by our mandatory reporting responsibilities to protect children from physical, sexual, emotional and psychological abuse and neglect.

Clear awareness is maintained around appropriate and inappropriate behaviour between adults and children. Defined boundaries are required between children and employees, volunteers, and the community to ensure children’s safety.

Commitment is upheld to promoting cultural safety for Aboriginal children, children from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds, and children with a disability by providing a safe and inclusive environment.

Diversity is valued, and discriminatory practices are not tolerated.

Ongoing professional development is prioritised to ensure employees can identify and respond to situations involving abuse and neglect, and remain accountable for their role in keeping children safe.

Collaboration with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child supports confidence in educating children about their right to be safe. Emphasis is placed on teaching children how to respond if they feel unsafe and encouraging them to express their views and thoughts on matters that affect them.

Active listening and empowerment of children are central, ensuring any concerns raised by them or others are acknowledged and acted upon in alignment with policies and procedures designed to keep children safe.
