Macedon Ranges Autumn Festival Highlights
The Macedon ranges Autumn festival has officially started. Set across nine villages during one of the most picturesque times of the year. Locals and visitors will get to enjoy the best of the Macedon Ranges Shire, from food to scenery.
The festival is driven by local businesses, community and creatives. It provides a platform to showcase the region’s makers, producers, artisans and attractions. But who could forget the main attraction – the stunning autumn leaves lining the streets, roads and hillsides.
Held between the 1st-30th of April – we have hand-picked some of our favourite upcoming events in this year’s festival line-up. These free, low cost and family friendly activities are a perfect way to spend a crisp autumn day.
- Art in the Vines at Hanging Rock
Don’t miss the annual free sculpture exhibition at Hanging Rock Winery. Treat yourself to a glass of wine while you explore the sculpture trail set in the vines. The exhibition includes twenty-six renowned local and national artists. Each presenting unique and mesmerising forms. After you take in the arts – enjoy a cellar door experience or kick back with a picnic on the lawn.
Another free and child friendly event is this innovative audio guided tour around Lake sanatorium at Mt Macedon. The experience comprises the Lake Walk and Loop Track, taking roughly an hour to complete. The artists Ria Soemardjo, Sandra Fiona Long and Charlotte Roberts are passionate about inviting audiences to reconnect deeply with natural environments. The audio will reflect the environment, animals and natural rhythms of the lake and forest. You can download the audio for each walk here and enjoy a truly immersive art experience.
This school holiday event teaches children about the amazing variety of fungi in the Macedon Shire forests. The interactive workshop will be teaching the role of fungi in ecology; children will then make their own fungi sculptures out of paper, tape and oil pastel. Artist Kathy Holowko is hosting this fascinating and creative event at Kyneton Town Hall.
